Today, Opera Software and Entel Chile announced a partnership aimed at providing millions of mobile phone users in the country with access to the web while on the go.

The deal between the two companies involves the release of a customized flavor of the Opera Mini browser, and is part of Opera’s worldwide partnership with Vodafone.

Mobile phone users in Chile should be able to take advantage of Internet access on their phones at very low costs, Opera notes.

Opera Mini is already one of the most used mobile browsers in the world, enjoying over 190 million users all around the globe.

“Opera is now extending its already-existing relationship with Entel Chile with a strong focus on bringing the power of the internet to Entel’s 10 million subscribers in Chile,” Opera notes.

Through the newly announced partnership, Entel Chile subscribers will enjoy great savings when taking advantage of Opera Mini on their devices, as the browser can compress data by up to 90 percent.

Furthermore, Opera Mini users on Entel Chile’s network will be automatically provided with the latest flavor of the browser, with the Smart Page feature inside, so as to benefit from fast access to Entel Chile’s data plans and other services.

At the same time, the Smart Page will function as a hub of users’ social life, with Facebook and Twitter updates, as well as one click access to news sources. The customized version of Opera Mini is available on the software company’s website.

“Chile has one of the largest mobile penetrations in Latin America but mobile broadband is still for the privileged few,” says Maria Ines Herrero, deputy manager of Development and Innovation, Entel Chile.

“We are proud to partner with Opera Mini to ensure our customers get value for money as they browse the mobile internet to get to the information they need, because, for many Chileans, the mobile device is their gateway to the internet.”

Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software added that the company has been long focused on providing a great mobile navigation experience to users all around the world, regardless of the network they are on.

“Designed for speed and ease of use, Opera Mini provides insanely fast browsing on both 2G and 3G networks. Giving this capability to Entel Chile users is very exciting for us,” he said.
