Opera 25 has finally arrived in the developer channel, so a new build is now available for download, bringing a bunch of new features and improvements on both Windows and Mac OS X.

Opera 25 for Developer finally supports web notifications, an option that has been around in other browsers, including Chrome and Firefox, since a few versions ago.

Starting with this build, Opera supports them too, and the developing team recommends everyone to give them a try in the Gmail web service. Just enable desktop notifications in Gmail settings and you're done.

“From now on, Opera officially supports web notifications. These are a special kind of pop-up triggered by a site. Notifications alert the user outside of the context of the browser. Usually, the operating system UI is used to display the alert. This is very convenient way for web page and web app makers to inform their users about events, such as the delivery of email or a comment posted on a blog,” the developers behind Opera say.

At the same time, this new version also comes with a new Mac OS X installer, which should be less prone to errors even on a very slow Internet connection.

Overall, even though no visual improvements are part of this release, all Opera users running a preview build should update, so click the download links below to give a shot to this new version.
