Opera unveiled today its latest innovation meant to provide better web browsing, under the name of Opera Turbo. The company announced that it planned to showcase the new turbo-charged way to surf at the Mobile World Congress, which is held between February 16-18 in Barcelona Spain.

The new Opera Turbo will be available for business customers on Opera Mobile, as well as on Opera Desktop and Opera Devices SDK. The innovation is capable of compressing bandwidth consumption, more specifically, it processes the data that is sent to a mobile phone and compresses it by up to 80 percent, offering operators a way to reduce the network traffic while also save data transmission.

At the same time, the new Opera Turbo is also meant to provide device manufacturers with a faster browsing application able to use the hardware resources more efficiently. Users will be this way offered an enhanced experience, which does not rely on the network constraints or hardware limitations.

The advanced compression technology included in Opera Turbo can enable even devices with limited hardware capabilities to provide leveraged page download rates, while also improving the overall performance. The innovation does not transcode the page while transferring it, says Opera, also adding that support for dynamic Web technologies like Ajax and Flash has also been included.

“We are living in a time and place where access to the Web should be a universal right to all. Technology has advanced us to the point that we can very nearly access the Internet anytime and anywhere from a growing number of devices,” said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. “As part of Opera's commitment to provide the best experience on any device, Opera has developed the Opera Turbo solution. The Mobile World Congress serves as a forum for us to educate others on the wonders of Web technology.”

Opera also announced that at MWC it would showcase its applications on a range of devices, including Opera Mobile on smartphones such as HTC HD, Samsung Omnia and Sony Ericsson Xperia, and will also allow for free downloads for Opera Mini. Other demonstrations will also be made.
