Opera Stays Microsoft-free

The Norwegian software maker Opera will stay Microsoft free after denying a series of rumors which implied an imminent take-over planned by Bill Gates and Co. This happens only two weeks after Opera announced it wasn't going to be bought by online search engine Google, in spite of the ongoing information which stated that the Finnish have accepted an important financial offer.

The so-called connection between Microsoft and Opera was
first discussed end of last week, when rumors started saying that Opera sold the majority of its stocks to Microsoft. This also meant that Microsoft had defeated Google in an auction which is as false as the rest of the story.

As for Opera, this misleading information triggered an avalanche of phone calls from developers, media, stock holders and so on, who inquired about details on the take-over, the financial terms, the conditions of the transaction and so on. The only answer they received was that there was no intention of selling the company and that no deal had been reached with Microsoft or any other company. The reason why this information was so easily accepted by everybody is that to Microsoft it would seem a logical move to get rid of the competition, especially now that Opera is starting to make progress and its mobile browser is gaining popularity very fast. Still, the company's market share is struggling to catch up at least to Firefox, so it really doesn't pose any threat to Microsoft, but still, the software giant would be entitled to get rid of a potentially dangerous competitor.
