Opera Now World’s Fastest Browser for Mac, Its Makers Say

Opera Software has issued an official report saying its web browser is currently the fastest out there for Macintosh computers. In fact, the Norwegian company stresses, Opera 10.52 is roughly ten times faster than its predecessor (version 10.10), and boasts a powerful, new set of features that have been specifically designed to take advantage of Mac OS X, as well as Mac hardware, like a MacBook’s trackpad.

“The new Opera browser for Mac is now more than ten times faster, according to speed comparisons between Opera 10.52 and Opera 10.10,” Opera Software says in its April 27 announcement. “With a powerful new feature set tailored for Mac computers, Opera delivers a much improved user experience,” the report reads. “The new Opera is designed with Mac in mind,” Opera Software reveals.

It then cites the improved user interface, Cocoa integration, multi-touch trackpad gestures and Growl support as key aspects making Opera a great choice for web surfing on a Mac. “This, combined with the unprecedented speed from the new JavaScript engine, Carakan, and the new graphic library, Vega, provides a faster and smoother browsing experience,” the company adds. “The new Opera also features the latest in Web standards, including leading SVG support and HTML 5 video.”

Opera Software proceeds to list a number of reasons to try Opera for Mac. Those include speed, thanks to the Mac-optimization it has done with the browser, a more Mac-like UI, enhanced support for trackpad gestures for those who plan on employing the software on a MacBook, and the Opera Turbo feature, which optimizes page loading when browsing on a slow network.

“To all Mac users who value fast browsing, please meet Opera,” Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software, says. “Opera is a consistent performer on even the most congested networks, giving people the fastest browsing experience, coupled with a powerful feature set that is finely attuned to the needs of Mac users.”
