Suggestions rely on more than the last visited time

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a proper snapshot for Opera Next (12.0 alpha). The wait is over as the development team just released a new build, 1256, sporting a very interesting feature: address bar suggestions.

They changed the algorithm for serving suggestions in the address field, and results are no longer provided taking into account only the last visited time. The new system prioritizes bookmarks and relies on a larger set of factors that contribute to create scores for the matching results.

The parameters building up the scores include not only the last visited time, but also the position in the URL that has a match or the number of times a match is encountered on a page.

Development of the feature is in full swing as the team plans to include Speed Dial as well, and refine the scoring system.

The full set of changes is available here.
