Norwegian software company Opera has released into the wild a few weeks ago a beta version of its Opera Mobile web browser for handsets running under Google's Android operating system, and the company is already considering packing some more features in the solution.

A recent post from the development team of Opera Mobile for Android shows that, although the mobile browser already has a wide range of appealing features packed with it, more of them should become available in the near future.

Here's what they note on the matter:

Although Opera Mobile already has all the browser features, we want to improve your comfort when browsing the Internet. In particular, you can look forward to: Flash: the new web technologies aim to replace it, but Flash will be around for some time. If you have Flash Player installed on your phone, Opera will support it.

HTML5 video: although it's possible to embed videos in a Flash, you can have videos directly in HTML5, the same way as images. You can already see HTML5 videos on Youtube.

According to the application's developers, the building of Opera Mobile for Android was not a simple task, especially since the application was written in C++, while Android runs only applications that were written in Java and converted for Dalvik virtual machine.

While the technical details might not interest all of you, we should note that, according to Opera's team, the fact that Android is a pretty young operating system and that it is being changed a lot from one version to another become quite an issue when building an app for as many devices as possible.

“The good part here is that the user interface is modern and new features keep flowing in quickly. But the new features often bring changes that are not compatible with the previous versions: libraries change name, library loading is different and so on,” the development team notes.

“This is the reason why our installation package on the Android Market supports Android from version 1.6 on,” they continue.

Opera Mobile for Android is available for download from Softpedia too, via this link.
