When it comes to the Web browsers that Windows Mobile and Symbian users can choose from, one of the best options is Opera Mobile 9.7. The application can deliver impressive speeds when it comes to navigation, and few other solutions can come near or equal it. And while the aforementioned mobile operating systems have been the only ones to enjoy Opera Mobile's capabilities, it seems that things are about to change.

According to Opera Software CEO Jon von Tetzchner, cited by PCMag, Google's Android platform might soon see the Web browser available for it as well. Although a time frame hasn't been unveiled until now, it seems that the application is on its way towards Android users. "Yes, we are working on an Android version," von Tetzchner stated.

When it comes to Opera's solutions available for the Android operating system we should mention the Opera Mini, which can be used on BlackBerry handsets as well. However, this application comes as a lightweight browser, as opposed to Opera Mobile, which is a full-fledged browser that not only renders HTML pages on mobile phones but also supports a series of widgets.

As PCMag notes, it should be interesting to see how Opera Mobile and Android's own browser, which is based on WebKit, will go along. Opera's solution is indeed fast and also includes a series of features like a download manager or flexible bookmark management, yet the browser available with Android is not a bad option either.

As many of you might already know, Opera Mobile 9.7 for Windows Mobile was released in a beta flavor at the beginning of June and it works on touchscreen handsets. The solution comes with a series of technologies meant to enable a fast navigation over the Internet directly from a mobile phone, including Opera Turbo, an upgraded browser engine called Opera Presto 2.2, as well as Opera Widgets.
