For the past several months, Opera has been working on the release of a new flavor of its Opera browser for Android devices, one that was built on the WebKit standard and which landed in a final flavor last week.

Released as Opera 14 for Android, the mobile browser replaced the older Opera Mobile completely, to the dismay of many people who were still enjoying its capabilities when browsing the web.

Apparently, Opera understood that not all users were interested in the change, and decided to bring back the older browser to Google’s Android operating system, alongside the new, WebKit-based application.

Dubbed Opera Mobile Classic, it is now available for download as version 12.1, being the same browser flavor that users could download before Opera 14 kicked in.

Apparently, thousands of users have already rushed to download and install Opera Mobile Classic on their devices, while the number of downloads of the new Opera Browser dropped significantly in the past several weeks.

“Opera Mobile Classic Browser 12.1 for Android comes with fraud protection, best-in-class support for web standards and improved compatibility with mobile sites,” Opera notes.

The Opera Mobile browser is available for download for both smartphones and tablet PCs, enabling users to easily access content that interests them the most.

Regardless of whether used on WiFi networks or over mobile connections (both 3G and 4G), the browser can still deliver an appealing experience to its users.

It also offers a Speed Dial for fast access to favorite websites, built-in Twitter and Facebook support, a full-featured interface, text wrapping, zooming and other features as well.

“It’s designed to make the most of your Android device! Opera Mobile adapts automatically to the way you read, watch or interact on a smaller screen. You’ll enjoy all your favorite websites even more in Opera Mobile,” the company notes.

You can find both Opera Mobile Classic 12.1 and Opera Browser 14 for Android on this page on Softpedia.
