Today, Norwegian software company Opera Software announced the release of the first beta version of Opera Mobile 10.1 for mobile phones powered by the Symbian S60 operating system. According to the company, the new Opera Mobile 10.1 beta comes to S60 devices with a series of speed improvements, to which it adds geolocation capabilities.

“Opera Mobile 10.1 beta is a new upgrade, including the latest rendering technologies to boost browsing performance on Symbian Series 60 phones,” said Dag Olav Norem, Vice President, Mobile Products at Opera Software. “Millions of people already use Opera Mobile on their Nokia Series 60 phones and we hope many of them will help us test this new beta.”

The main features of the new beta version of Opera Mobile 10.1 are under the hood, the company notes. The new version of the mobile browser comes with that powerful Presto rendering engine, combined with Vega graphics library and Carakan JavaScript engine, all put together in a solution that can offer an experience similar with that offered on desktop computers.

Not to mention that Opera Mobile 10.1 beta comes with support for geolocation, something that should put the mobile phone on the map. Through this feature, users are expected to receive tailored content from web services like maps and travel applications. Of course, since privacy might be an issue, Opera Mobile enables users to choose whether they want to share their location or not.

The features list of the new mobile solution also includes: - Opera desktop features, like Speed Dial, Opera Link, password manager, make it easier for you to surf on the go, by reducing the time and effort it takes to get to a website. - Tabbed browsing, a virtual keyboard, kinetic scrolling and auto-rotation to landscape make browsing with Opera Mobile easier and a lot more fun. - When the network speed makes browsing tough, turn on Opera Turbo. Use our servers to compress webpages on the fly and more than double your browsing speed.

Smartphones running under Symbian S60, 3rd and 5th editions, can already benefit from the features Opera Mobile 10.1 beta brings into the mix. The solution is available for a free download from Softpedia too, via this link. Users can also get it through heading to m.opera.com/next on the browser on their devices.
