Today, Norvegian software company Opera announced the release of a new version of its highly-popular Opera Mini mobile browser, namely Opera Mini 5.1. According to the company, its mobile solution is already being used by more than 61 million people worldwide, and is capable of providing the best user experience on over 3000 mobile phones.

“Today, Opera introduces Opera Mini 5.1, an update to the popular Opera Mini 5, which further improves the browsing experience on phones with limited memory. The update includes a new optimized browser skin allowing for more pages to be open at the same time, more rapid scrolling through pages, and overall improved browsing performance,” the company announced via a press release.

According to Opera, the new software solution has been released as a great option for Nokia S40 feature phones that come to the market with limited memory, like the popular Nokia 5130 XpressMusic, Nokia 6300 and Nokia 2700 handsets would be. Moreover, the update should also prove great for handsets that sport small screen sizes, including the Sony Ericsson K550i and Sony Ericsson W810i phones.

At the same time, the new Opera Mini 5.1 is expected to offer an enhanced user experience on mobile phones that might experience out-of-memory issues, or which need to reload web pages in Opera Mini 5. However, the browser does not come to the market with great enhancements for high-end smartphones or feature phones, it seems.

“The goal with Opera Mini is to make the Web available to anyone, anywhere, regardless of where they come from or the handset they have,” says Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “More than 61 million people on over 3000 devices have chosen to surf the Web with Opera Mini for fast and easy Internet access at a considerably lower cost.”

Opera's mobile solution compresses data by up to 90 percent before sending content to mobile phones, something that provides much faster page loading and speeds. Data load is reduced as well, and both mobile phone users and wireless carriers benefit from it.
