Opera Mini 6.1, the mobile browser version that was released into the wild only a few weeks ago, has just got a silent update on S60 devices. The new flavor of the browser comes with a wide range of improvements aimed at either fixing issues with the application, or at enhancing support for certain handsets.

Opera Mini 6.1 already came with a wide range of enhancements on Symbian, but it seems that Opera felt some more of them were needed.

The release notes for the new app version includes:

- Input mode indicator is back on 2nd edition devices. - Correct default font for CJK installations. - Better hardware keyboard support on touch devices. - Full screen keyboard is now used for RTL text input on Symbian^3/Anna. - Improved support for Nokia X7-00 device. - Stability fixes and minor improvements.

As stated above, the Opera Mini 6.1 browser for S60 was made available for download only about two weeks ago, when it landed on devices powered by other mobile platforms as well.

In addition to Symbian, the browser can be downloaded and installed on Android and BlackBerry handsets, as well as on Java phones, and should soon reach version 6.1 on iPhone too.

Opera Mini is the most popular mobile browser in the world, already offering support for thousands of phone models.

The browser topped 100 million monthly users not too long ago, and has been adding more of them since, proving that it indeed is a highly popular mobile application.

One of the most important features of the application is the compression technology that Opera packed it with, through which web pages are compressed by up to 90 percent before being sent to handsets.

Thus, users can enjoy fast browsing and important savings courtesy of less data usage, while carriers benefit from less network loads.
