Norwegian software company Opera announced today the launch of Opera Mini 5 beta for handsets powered by Google's Android operating system. The new beta version of the most popular mobile browser has arrived on Android with enhanced performance levels, while also being able to deliver cost-efficient Web experience to any mobile phone powered by Google's platform.

“Android users should not have to compromise when it comes to surfing the Web on their phones. Opera Mini will give Android users a fast and cost-efficient access to their favorite Web sites and services,” Dag Olav Norem, vice president of Products, Opera Software, commented on the launch of Opera Mini 5 beta for Android.

Currently, Opera Mini enjoys a number of more than 50 million users all around the world, and can offer fast browsing capabilities on almost all devices available on the market at the moment. Moreover, the software solution has been developed so as to compress data by up to 90 percent before delivering it to the handset, which results in a significantly improved page loading.

Some of the main features of the browser include: - Tabbed browsing – Browse several Web sites at the same time, while easily jumping from one to another. - Speed Dial – Get to your favorite Web page with just one click, with a set of visual bookmarks when you open a new tab. - Opera Link – Synchronize your bookmarks and Speed Dial between your mobile phone and desktop computer. - Download manager – Manage downloads right from the browser. Pause and resume downloads to suit your needs.

The new Opera Mini 5 beta for Android is available for download either from Opera's mobile website at m.opera.com/next, which can be accessed via the Android browser on the handset, or from the Android Market, where users will only have to search for the app to download it. “With a simple, easy-to-use interface, Opera Mini offers a desktop-like Web browsing experience on a mobile phone, with favorite features such as Speed Dial, tabbed browsing, password manager and bookmarks. With Opera Mini optimized for Android, more people will be able to get a PC-like browsing experience on their mobile handsets,” Opera notes.
