Norwegian software company Opera has just announced the availability of a new version of its Opera Mini mobile browser for devices running under the Symbian operating system, namely Opera Mini 5.1 Beta.

“If you are one of the million of Symbian users out there, we have some fantastic news for you: Opera Mini 5.1 beta for Symbian is now available for download,” Opera announced officially via its blog.

One of the most important features that the beta version of the mobile browser comes with is that it includes a new native version of Opera Mini.

Through this, Symbian users who will download and install the application should enjoy much faster overall loading time, as well as great integration with the mobile phone.

The list of improvements included in the new version of the mobile browser shows:

- Faster start up time. - Even faster page loading. - Improved scrolling performance. - Integration with your phone native input. - Improved performance, especially for older S60 devices. - Improved fonts. - Device integration for cut-and-paste, email client and more. - No more dialogue boxes asking permission to connect to the Web.

For the time being, however, the Opera Mini 5.1 Beta for Symbian is available only in English.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Opera Mini has managed to pass 71.2 million users in September, as the browser is available on more devices than before.

Symbian is only one of the mobile platforms that Opera Mini is available for download for. Android, BlackBerry, or Windows Mobile can also be included on the list, as well as various feature phone models.

The mobile browser was packed with data compression technology that enables it to compress data by up to 90 percent before sending it to the mobile phone, resulting in savings both for end-users and for wireless carriers.

"It is Opera’s objective to provide its users with the best possible web-surfing experience on any device,” said Christen Krogh, Chief Development Officer, Opera Software.

“Porting Opera Mini to the Symbian programming language provides the largest user base in the smartphone world with the best mobile browsing experience.”
