Android fans who use Opera Max will be happy to know the application has just received a major update that brings lots of new features and improvements.

With the latest version of Opera Max, users will have more control over heavy apps that are eating up their data. Developers have added a few tools that will allow users to manage app data usage more efficiently.

But first things first. One of the more important new features included in the latest update is Opera Max's ability to track data usage over Wi-Fi networks with the Wi-Fi data-usage timeline.

As mentioned earlier, Opera Max users will be able to manage app data usage on Wi-Fi and mobile networks. This means that you will be able to block apps that are eating your data in the background without your permission.

Speed up your Wi-Fi data connection in public places

Also, you can block unnecessary apps running in the background in order to save battery. Developers also improved Wi-Fi speed in crowded, public hotspots. In fact, you will be able to do that by setting Opera Max to compress your app data when you are on Wi-Fi.

“When you sign on to the public Wi-Fi hotspot at the airport or your local café and find yourself competing with 150 other people, you’ve probably experienced that the connection is as slow as a turtle,” said Opera Software in a blog post.

Simply activate the Wi-Fi Savings setting and Opera Max will start compressing the data needed to run apps, thus speeding up Wi-Fi connection.

Keep in mind that the savings are based on sampling of US beta testers, so depending on where you live the results may vary.

You can now download Opera Max for Android for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.0 and up.
