Opera, the well-known company behind the popular desktop and mobile browsers with the same name, has issued a press release in which it emphasizes the fact that we do not have to own a smartphone in order to have a good mobile browsing experience.

Opera continuously promotes the free-of-charge Opera Mini (already recognized as the most used mobile browser around the globe) as being the best solution for Web browsing on the go for those who don't have advanced handsets.

The Opera Software State of the Mobile Web report for the month of June shows that Opera Mini is used on a wide range of phones, from low to high-end ones, thus being the most versatile mobile browser.

In June, Opera Mini was downloaded mainly from Nokia phones (which is somehow logical, since the Finnish company is "responsible" for about 40% of the world's handsets). The world's top three mobile phones to have downloaded Opera Mini are: Nokia N70, Nokia N73 and Nokia 6300. Furthermore, the top 10 brings the following handsets: Sony Ericsson K750i, BlackBerry 8310, Nokia 6233, Nokia 6600, Samsung E250, Sony Ericsson W810i and Nokia 5300.

"People want the Web on their phone regardless of the type of handset they have. Our list of top phones shows both smartphones and feature phones, which is a testament to the versatility Opera Mini provides," says Jon von Tetzchner, Opera's Chief Executive Officer. "Additionally, this proves that given the right experience, many more people will use the Web on their phone. Accessing the Web on your phone is not a luxury limited to who has the most expensive phone model."

An interesting aspect about Opera Mini is that, in the US, nine of the ten handsets to have downloaded the browser are BlackBerry smartphones. The only device that is not made by RIM is the LG LX260 (also known as LG Rumor), which is situated on the eighth position in Opera Mini's US top ten.
