Norwegian software company Opera announced on Monday that it had expanded the availability of its Opera Widgets to support almost all mobile phones on the market today. According to the company, it has managed to re-build its Opera Mobile Widgets experience using the same technology as the one used on Opera Mini, making the solution available for the mass market.

According to Opera, its solution now offers wireless carriers and mobile phone makers around the world the possibility to deliver exciting, Web-based content and services to their customers no matter the handsets they are using. At the same time, the company also notes that the new widgets platform benefits from the newly introduced cross-platform UI framework from Opera as well.

The Opera Mini-based Widgets platform comes with the sale UI and features as the Opera Mobile Widgets Manager. The list of capabilities includes: - Based on open Web standards - Provides instant access to content and services - Rapid development and time-to-market - Cross-device, cross-platform deployment - Drives data consumption - Creates new revenue stream through sale of content and services - Now available for nearly any phone on your network

The new framework has been designed so as to offer carriers and handset vendors the possibility to efficiently distribute only one browser across a large number of mobile phones. Additionally, a single Opera Widgets experience can be developed for almost any platform on the market, the company notes. Wireless operators will have a lot to gain from the solution, since the widgets are meant to drive the user data consumption upwards, and also encourage the usage of content and services.

“Our new Widgets platform releases operators and manufacturers from the native application box and gives them the tools needed to develop Web-based content that is fun, useful and available to everyone,” said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “By rebuilding our Opera Mobile Widgets Manager with our cross-platform UI framework, we are able to help our customers deliver a better, more unified user experience on nearly any mobile phone.”
