KongZhong Corporation, an important Chinese wireless content and media supplier, announced a partnership with Opera Software ASA, the Norwegian company that provides internet browsing solutions for any device. The Chinese company and the Oslo-based developer will launch "KongZhong Opera", a customized browser for Chinese mobile device users.

Opera will create the customized "KongZhong Opera" browser and make KongZhong's website its default home page. The new browser will be available for free, helping Chinese mobile users to browse common Internet pages as well as WAP pages directly from their phones. Opera and KongZhong believe that "KongZhong Opera" can become very popular among mobile users and thus it will bring search-related incomes, advertising incomes and other types of revenues.

Jon von Tetzchner, Chief Executive Officer at Opera Software, said: "China is a very important market for Opera and to approach it correctly we need a strong partner. KongZhong is an ideal match for us because we share two important characteristics: a desire to give the users what they want and the ability to deliver useful, yet powerful innovation into the hands of consumers. Together, we can create the mobile Web experience for millions of Chinese mobile phone users."

KongZhong's President, Mr. Nick Yang, declared: "As the developer of the very popular Opera browser, Opera has a large amount of users from PCs, cell phones, pocket PCs and even certain types of game consoles. On the other hand, Kong.net, operated by KongZhong, is one of the leading wireless Internet portals in China. This strategic partnership offers mobile phone users the best products of the two companies. We expect that great distribution of "KongZhong Opera" browser will bring increased traffic to Kong.net, strengthen our brand awareness and enhance our leadership position in wireless Internet industry."

The release date of "KongZhong Opera" was not announced yet, but it will most probably be available for free download in a couple of months.
