Opera 9.5 continues to evolve and in this context version 9.52 Final is now available for download. The Norwegian-based browser manufacturer had offered Release Candidate 2 of version 9.52 at the end of the past week, indicating that it was the last testing milestone before the code was planned to go gold. Opera 9.52 is designed to deal with a variety of stability and security issues which survived following the introduction of versions 9.5 and 9.51 since June 2007. "We released 9.52 today, which addresses several security and stability issues. This release is a recommended upgrade for all those running the latest stable releases," stated Claudio Santambrogio, Opera QA Desktop Test Manager.

According to the changelogs for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, Opera 9.52 brings to the table a variety of enhancements spanning across various areas of the browser, from the graphical user interface, to display, scripting, security as well as integration with Mail, News, and Chat clients and services.

As far as the UI is concerned, Opera 9.52 adds "several improvements to the icons and skin; a bookmark path to autocompleted bookmarks in the address bar to better distinguish them from visited pages; as well as a Help button to Engine Init() Failed error message on start-up to inform users about a problem," Opera revealed.

According to the Norway-based company, in version 9.52 of the browser, the issues that were preventing Gmail to load in some specific scenarios have been dealt with. At the same time, integration problems with YouTube embedded videos have also been resolved. Opera has also fixed a memory leak residing in the BitTorrent code.

In terms of security Opera 9.52 fixes a "startup crash that could allow execution of arbitrary code; an issue that could allow cross-site scripting, [prevents] custom shortcuts [from passing] the wrong parameters to applications, [and] insecure pages from showing incorrect security information, [while in addition] feed links can no longer link to local files and feed subscription can no longer cause the wrong page address to be displayed," Opera revealed.
