Opera Software, through J. Gladykowski, announced on April 9 the immediate availability of another Beta update for the upcoming Opera 29 web browser, a release that fixes no more than ten issues (details below), based on the latest upstream Chromium Beta channel.

Opera 29 Beta is now based on the Chromium 42.0.2311.68 web browser, which is also in Beta stage at the moment of writing this article. In addition, further cleanup has been applied to the keyboard shortcuts and several issues have been addressed, especially in the Mac version of the software (see below for details).

In this release, the Opera Sync, Extensions, and Downloads button have been modified to respond to taps on touch-screens, the main menu has been set to be automatically disabled when configuring keyboard shortcuts, a typing cursor will be displayed instead of arrow when hovering over a heart button or a badge, and chrome.tabs.onZoomChange now works correctly.

"Now that Easter is finished, all hands are back on deck and we’re rolling out another update of our beloved Opera, to the beta channel," says J. Gladykowski. "This build has another update to Chromium (now at version 42.0.2311.68) and includes several more fixes, including further cleanup of shortcuts."

Numerous issues have been fixed in Opera for Mac

As mentioned, most of the changes implemented in this new Opera 29 Beta release are for the Mac platform. For example, an issue where users were not allowed to go to end of long URL has been repaired, a crash in >-[ExtensionInstalledBubbleController showWindow:] has been fixed, and the disabled main menu has been restored.

In addition, an issue with the Cmd Shift Left/Right keyboard shortcut that is used for switching tabs back and forward has been fixed, the tab menu will no longer be closed on cloning a web page with the tab menu, and the keyboard shortcuts for page zoom are correctly listed in the menu.

Unfortunately, an issue remains for the Mac version of Opera 29 Beta, as the "Zoom In" (⌘+) function does not work. It will be fixed in upcoming releases. Until then, you can download Opera 29 Beta for Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows right now from Softpedia. Happy testing!
