Share multiple bookmarks with a single link

Oslo, Norway-based Opera Software today debuted a brand new version of its powerful web browser for Mac, Windows, and Linux computers, offering an exciting new bookmarks sharing feature that enables users to bypass cumbersome lists of URLs and just share the entire batch with a link.

Opera wants to make it super easy for social types to swap things like hotel booking sites, clothing catalogs, holiday locations, and other stuff that comes in bulk when you need to make one important choice. Of course, you can use the sharing feature for just about anything, but those are Opera’s examples.

How it works

So, how does the sharing feature work? Easy! Simply press the new “Share” button located on the far right side of the UI. According to the Norwegian software company, this generates “a single, anonymous link” that you can share with anyone. A video demonstration of the feature in action can be found embedded below.

Users can choose a thumbnail for each new bookmark from the very webpage they’re browsing, essentially turning their bookmarks into a gallery of thumbnails.

These thumbnails, along with the links associated with the bookmarks, get instantly uploaded to the cloud when the user hits “Share.” The feature is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Zhenis Beisekov, Opera’s product manager of desktop products, says, “Browsing the web today often includes a social side. You want to share anything interesting you read online, you ask your friends for their opinions before you purchase something, or you share inspirations, lists of favorite songs or other interests,” adding, “It’s time for browsers to reflect this new reality and give people an easy way to share multiple links.”

What else is new in Opera 26?

The new Opera brings not only the exciting new bookmarks sharing feature but also a built-in print preview feature that lets users preview print layout in the browser, easier ways to import bookmarks and settings from the old browser, and a GUI redesign inspired by OS X Yosemite (for Mac users).

Linux users also get a treat. According to the release notes, starting with version 26, Opera has been upgraded to the Stable channel, which means that Linux users will no longer be left out when Mac and Windows users get updates. Opera is a free download on all supported platforms. Grab your own version from the links below.
