Measure aims at increasing the security of the average user

Opera released a new snapshot for the upcoming version of the browser, 12.50. The current revision introduces a new security system for installing add-ons from repositories that are not moderated by the browser maker.

In other words, when installing a new extension that is not from an Opera-trusted source, such as those on addons.opera.com, you won’t be able to click your way through the “Untrusted Repository” warning; the browser downright blocks the action.

However, you will be able to complete this action, provided that you include said repository in the trusted websites list (Preferences>Advanced>Security> Trusted Websites).

The reasoning for this measure is sound since too many users ignore the “Untrusted Repository” message and risk security breaches.

A small set of repairs is also available in this release, addressing issues such as sound notification failure, crash when opening or closing tabs using keyboard shortcuts (on Mac) and others.
