Huge Core upgrade includes improved WebM performance

Opera announced a beta candidate for version 12.10 of their web browser; Marlin is on hold for the moment. This means that there are still plenty of loose ends to tie up and that this release is a development snapshot, not yet ready for a wider audience.

Among the most significant modifications available is support for Retina Display Mac systems, which translates into sharper skin, with high-resolution details and the text on web pages will be crisper. Graphics will still be delivered in lower resolution, so they will appear blurred up.

WebM performance has been improved by updating the libvpx library, which speeds up HTML5 video decoding and real-time encoding for WebRTC. WebP image library, libwep, has also been updated.

The new revision also addresses a set of issues causing crashes, freezes or malfunctions. You can check all the changes on this page.
