Opera Software ASA has rolled out an updated version of its flagship product, the Opera web browser, for Macintosh computers. Available free of charge from the Mac App Store, Opera 11.64 is a maintenance update.

According to the Norwegian software vendor, “This latest version of the Opera browser is primarily a stability and security release. This means that we have focused on fixing important issues to keep your browsing even faster and safer,” says Opera Software ASA.

The changelog continues with a bunch of features making their way in from older releases, such as the revamped address field, the new browser engine, and the new design for Opera’s built-in email client.

“The address field has been revamped with new search suggestions, and you can also find your favorite websites more quickly in the results list. To add sites to your bookmarks or Speed Dial instantly, just press the star in the address field,” says Opera Software ASA.

Users will notice significant improvements to the browser engine, “providing a faster and more stable Internet experience,” according to the release notes. “Enjoy improved website compatibility, faster page loading and a higher level of overall stability when browsing,” says the developer.

Finally, the redesigned built-in mail client now allows users to manage their messages automatically, while also introducing a number of improvements, such as a cleaner layout, message grouping, a more intuitive view in your inbox and easier navigation.

“Get the most from the Web with great features such as custom search, mouse gestures and Find in Page to help you find content on long pages,” Opera Software adds.

Opera 11.64 requires OS X 10.5 Leopard or later, but the version you download from the Mac App Store installs only on Snow Leopard and Lion machines.
