A new version of the Opera web browser is now available to download on all supported platforms, including Mac OS X.

“You can enjoy our re-vamped Speed Dial with smarter thumbnails and a flow layout that fits your screen, smoother installation of popular plug-ins such as Adobe Flash and last, but not least, Opera Turbo improvements that make images sharper and performance faster than ever,” Opera Software said.

The new release enhances Speed Dial in a way that allows users to set the number of columns they want, as well as the size of the interactive thumbnails, to make accommodations for all types of screens.

Early tests with the browser show that Speed Dials also now have clearer previews. Best of all, there is no limit to how many dials you can use.

Opera Turbo brings improved compression.

“Boost your browsing speed on crowded Wi-Fi hotspots, tethered mobile phones or dial-up connections.”

The browser now lets users install and use plugins more easily. With version 11.10, the Adobe Flash Player installs seamlessly and automatically.

Finally, the Opera team mentions new support for CSS3 linear gradients, as the last of the more prominent new additions in Opera 11.10 Final.

Thanks to this enhancement, the Opera browser now shows webpages using the latest standards.

Mac specific tweaks include added animation for closed tabs, a fix for Speed Dial page losing focus after reloading, as well as a fix for full-screen not appearing on a second display if the Opera window was placed on the second one.

For those who use the Mail application in Opera, the tool adds support for phrase searching, improved CJK searches, improvements to the panel (including a setting to disable automatic toggling), and improved support when using the Opera Mail client with a Gmail IMAP account. Notably, Mail adds support for a trash and spam IMAP folder.
