14 DAY TRIAL // Opera 10 is getting closer and closer to finalization. In this regard, Opera Software announced on July 16, 2009 that the browser had moved from Beta to Beta 2 stage. In this regard, testers can now access, download and start running Opera 10.0 Beta 2 Build 1643 for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. With the Beta 2, Opera Software provides a range of tweaks, with development focused on improving the graphical user interface, core issues, and Opera Unite problems. Testers already familiar with previous releases of Opera 10.0 will be able to notice that the browser's new skin has been touched up a tad.
“Currently, we are making an effort to polish Opera Unite. We are ironing out some smaller UI glitches, and are making Opera Unite even more usable,” revealed a member of the Opera Desktop team. “In this build, you'll find everything that Opera 10.00 beta 2 has, plus Opera Unite. Due to remaining issues with the Opera Unite infrastructure, it has been decided that Unite isn't quite ready for beta yet. But don't worry, we're working hard to fix it.”
Download Opera 10.0 Build 1631 was the last snapshot of the Beta development phase, launched on July 9, 2009. Beta 2 followed just seven days later. A restyled Home button is among the changes featured by Opera 10.0 Beta 2, but users will also be able to enjoy new icons associated with setting the status in a chat window. In addition, there are a variety of under-the-hood fixes, including resolves for flickering and freezing, crashes, cookie listing, locks and memory leaks.
“The crash logger has been improved and now works on Mac. Important: Mac users, if you have submitted crash logs using the crash logger in previous builds, please re-submit them. We changed the format of the log, and old logs cannot be parsed. This is a development snapshot: It contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all,” the Opera Desktop team representative added.
