Opera 10.0 Alpha Build 1497 Available for Download

At less than a week since the delivery of the previous Alpha development milestone, Opera has made available for download Build 1497 of its next version of the Opera browser. Opera 10.0 Alpha Build 1497 has in fact shipped via the update infrastructure before the company announced its availability, and in this regard, testers with the following option opera:config#AutoUpdate|DownloadAllSnapshots enabled got the bits before any information was available on the release. Opera is asking users currently running Alpha snapshots of Opera 10 to leverage the autoupdates offered so that the delivery system can be tested.

“We still recommend regular backups of your profile, but everything should just keep working now if you upgrade from 9.6x to this latest build. If you still see problems with some profile data not getting migrated correctly to the new locations, please tell us! The only thing that will not get migrated are manual additions you might have made to the old operadef6.ini files,” revealed a member of the Opera Desktop team.

According to data provided for the changelog, Opera 10.0 Alpha Build 1497 brings to the table modifications affecting a variety of aspects, including the core experience, the graphical user interface and the Turbo component. For Opera Turbo the Norway-based browser maker has “added info menu item in Turbo context menu; changed Turbo info URL; [introduced] tweaks to the detection of slow connections; and [delivered a] small fix for Turbo not enabling when clicked,” the Opera Desktop team representative further said. Users will also be able to notice the Turbo button's new context menu.

Users should be advised that the latest snapshot of the browser still qualifies as a fully fledged Alpha release. In this regard, while Opera has indeed fixed a variety of issues and dealt with bugs already reported, Opera 10 can still present problems.
