OpeniMac is the latest Mac cloner trying its luck with PC's running OS X. With Apple actively taking blow after blow at Psystar, Argentina-based OpeniMac is offering almost identical solutions comprised of regular PCs that have been modified to run Mac OS X.

According to the company's General Conditions, the OpeniMac is a PC with Intel hardware capable of running an OS X Leopard system. All of the Leopard software and applications work properly, except for the Software Update utility. OpeniMac notes that its computers are “NO Update systems.”

The price includes a license of Leopard in its original package, while the use of the respective copy of Leopard “is governed according to the terms and uses set by Apple (http://www.apple.com/legal/sla/),” the document reveals. The company also pre-installs OS X on your machine so that you can start using Apple's OS the minute you plug it in. One other lacking feature, according to the company, is the inability of the OpeniMac to run Bootcamp.

Spotted by eagle-eyed folks at Engadget, the OpeniMac isn't even an all-in-one system. However, for $990 and $1,710, respectively, the specs are pretty impressive.

OpeniMac - provides 2.53GHz with 3 MB of shared L2 cache, 2GB of DDR2 SDRAM, a 320 GB Serial ATA 7200 rpm drive, an 8X SuperDrive, and an ATI Radeon HD PRO with 256 MB of video memory GDDR3. Add $340 to the bill and you can nab yourself a 19-inch LG LCD display too.

OpeniMac Pro - comes with a 3.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 6 MB of shared L2 cache, 4 GB of DDR2 SDRAM, a 500 GB Serial ATA 7200 rpm drive, 8X SuperDrive, NVIDIA GeForce GS with 1 GB of GDDR3 video memory, and “a brilliant” 20-inch LG widescreen display.

Note that OpeniMac even tries to replicate the way Apple advertises its products. Instead of “brilliant,” Apple uses the adjective “stunning” to describe the crisp image delivered by its displays.
