OpenOffice.org Premium 2.0.3 delivers a conglomerate of extensions bundled together into a free-to-download package designed to integrate seamlessly with the open source application. The
enhancement solutions represent an assembly of extras build on top of the 2.0.3 version of the suite. For now the OpenOffice.org Premium 2.0.3 is available solely for Windows. A native Mac OS X variant of the suite will be introduced at the Apple Expo Paris September 12-16 and at the OpenOffice.org Conference in Lyon on September 11-13.
The extras included in the OpenOffice.org Premium 2.0.3 feature in excess of 2,800 items of clip art, templates and samples for various languages, documentation, and more than 90 fonts. The initiative aims to deliver an edge in the face-off with Microsoft's Office suite, by making available resources comparable with the Redmond Company's offerings.
The additions are an initial step to turning OpenOffice into a professional word editing tool, an Office equivalent that would not be handicapped by the open source status. And while the application is making available a plethora of extensions, OpenOffice.org Premium 2.0.3 is still a free solution.
