An online privacy tool that encrypts the connection between the ISP and the user

Since they believe that DNS security could be even better than it currently is, OpenDNS released a tool that will protect the Internet connection between the Internet Service Provider (ISP) and the customer’s computer.

Just as SSL turns HTTP web traffic into more secure traffic, DNSCrypt turns regular DNS traffic into encrypted traffic that is unsusceptible to man-in-the-middle attacks or eavesdropping.

The best part about it is that it doesn’t need any major modifications to the domain names, instead it provides the means to encrypt the communications between the user and the OpenDNS's DNS servers.

For now, Mac users can test it to see how it works and the tech savvy customers can even take a peek at its code base, but the company promises that a PC version would also be available in the near future.

While the current version still needs a few tweaks, since it’s not configured to maintain state between reboots, users who want to can immediately put it to work as the developers state it shouldn’t cause any problems.

DNSCrypt 0.7 Beta is available for download here.
