WiFi networks are indeed threatened by security problems, but so are all other networks, whether we're talking about mobile, cell phone, high-sped or just basic LANs.
However, at least theoretically, if users are
well educated and know what to do to stay away from spyware, viruses and worms, the security shouldn't be such a big concern.
But local politicians in Westchester County, NY have decided to have a different approach of the security issue and they have proposed a law that basically bans open WiFi from any commercial business.
Protecting naive users from identity theft and other forms of online fraud is obviously a good idea and taking measures in this respect can only be commended.
But a project that would outlaw open WiFi isn't exactly the best solution. One might think that such announcements are made only to attract attention and not to actually solve security problems.
