Krita, an open-source digital painting software that proved to be a very powerful and useful solution, is once more present on Kickstarter and this time it wants to become faster than Photoshop.

The Krita developers went on Kickstarter last year, and they promised to improve the application tremendously if the project was a success. They managed to raise enough money and to improve Krita tremendously. The product of the Kickstarter campaign was Krita 2.9, their best release ever made.

Now they have even bigger plans, and they have started a new Kickstarter campaign for €20,000 ($22000). The have big plans for the next iteration of Krita, and one of their goals is to make their apps even faster than Photoshop. There aren't too many projects that started a second campaign on Kickstarter after the first one was successful, but the developers have a good chance to make some very interesting improvements to Krita.

Users have a month to contribute

The campaign has just started, and it will go on for another 29 days. The two major goals of the project are to make the application work really fast on big canvases with big brushes and to transform it into an awesome 2D animation tool.

"Achieve awesome performance, beating Photoshop at its own game. Thanks to research by Dmitry, we've figured it out, and we know how to do it, but it's a BIG job! Several months of dedicated coding, right inside Krita's core. And that's where you come in - help us make this possible, let's push Krita to yet another height. Huge posters, big illustrations, high-def film matte paintings. Big brushes with a diameter over 3000 pixels will be possible" reads the official website.

In the meantime, you can install Krita 2.9.2 and see for yourself what the developers have done with the project. This is a free project, but the devs have set some interesting goals and rewards that can be seen on the official Kickstarter page.
