After spending the money required for such a precious tool as an Apple Macintosh computer, being able to enjoy some free software for this platform can be a real blessing, and those that think free software for Macintosh is hard to find and the number of such projects is not that large should think again!

MacForge is the equivalent of the well known Sourceforge, or at least that's what I can say about it at this time. The difference is that MacForge is a location that recently reached 40,000 active open source projects that work on the Mac or are likely to work on it. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of MacTech Magazine, the MacForge is able to house a large number of Mac and Mac/nix projects, and the plans for the future include adding programs that will need porting to get to the Mac, and I really hope they are also going to work on porting them...

MacTech Magazine was originally a programmer's magazine, and today it is a print publication over 20 years old, for anyone that may be interested in getting technical Mac information, and this includes virtually all those who want to know more beyond the average user level. The site I told you about, MacForge.net, features project filtering, search, category browsing and more ways to sort the projects for finding what you are looking for as fast as possible.

A website that was - at first - something created out of necessity, MacForge has grown to become a very popular resource for thousands of users looking for open source alternatives to commercial programs on Mac, and if you're not one of its users yet, I invite you to visit MacForge.net as soon as possible, because you won't regret it!
