Opacity, exclusively crafted website imagery and desktop software (such as launch icons), has been updated to version 1.1, adding support for SVG, which allows web vector illustration. The software relies on both Quartz and Core Animation technology, and has vector, layer, and filtering tools. A downloadable trial version is available.

Opacity is an editor for screen graphics designed exclusively to make it easy for graphic artists to design great looking images for icons, desktop applications, and the web, on machines running Mac OS X 10.5.2 (Leopard) or higher.

"With the release of Leopard, resolution independence is coming soon and Opacity can help you make your graphics resolution independent. It's been designed from the ground up to make it easy to make gorgeous graphics at multiple resolutions," Like Thought notes.

Being the professional tool that it is, Opacity aids artists using features very familiar to them, such as vector objects, pixel editing, and live filters, while variables and Factories make designing screen graphics even easier.

"The things that Opacity doesn't do were almost as important in creating it as the things it does do. By focusing on a very specific purpose (graphics for the screen), Opacity is easier to use and has specific features that wouldn't make sense if it tried to do everything," Like Thought adds. Therefore, editing photos, creating prepress images, creating print graphics, legacy image formats is all done in "swiss army knife-style", nothing more, nothing less.

New in version 1.1 is a new Duplicate menu item, some performance improvements along with improved interoperability with other applications and bug fixes. Opacity's UI (user interface) has also been tweaked up a bit so we encourage you to download the free trial and give it glance. Click HERE to do just that.

Opacity requires Mac OS X 10.5.2 Leopard.
