Valentine’s Day is coming up, so if you’re planning to surprise your significant other with a nifty tech gift, Amazon is just the place to visit for a discount or two.

Amazon’s (Kindle) Fire HDX 8.9 is currently available for purchase for $299.99 / €265, down from the usual $479 / €424 you have to pay on usual basis.

Is the Fire HDX 8.9 worth it? Sure you might find better tablets out there, but the HDX is the way to go if you’re already spending a lot of time in Amazon’s digital music / movie / TV ecosystem and you’ll be using the slate primarily for entertainment.

The device bundles pretty nifty specs too, including an 8.9-inch HDX display (translates into 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution), a quad-core 2.5GHz processor fitted with 2GB of RAM and Adreno 420 GPU.

The tablet is even lighter than the iPad Air and runs on the company’s latest Fire OS 4. On top of that, it boasts a nifty display trick which quickly adjusts the HDX’s brightness and white balance based on the nearby lighting. This is something you won’t encounter with a lot of other tablets on the market.

And at least for today, the Fire HDX 8.9 is pretty cheap, compared to the original price. So you better hurry and order one.
