There were only 350,000 new sites on the web in the last month, making it a very stale one, given that there are about 620,480,777 sites in total, as found by Netcraft's monthly survey at the start of October.

But even if the overall number hardly changed, there have been bigger changes among the popular web servers.

In terms of actual active sites, all big players went down, but in terms of market share, Apache's web server gained 0.45 percentage points, to solidify its dominance at 55.43 percent, while Microsoft's IIS gained 0.1 percentage points pushing it to 12.36, ahead of nginx's 11.99 percent, down from 12.08 percent in the previous month.

Granted, these changes are normal and regular as big hosting companies and sites turn servers on and off as they need them.
