14 DAY TRIAL // The systems of several financial institutions from the Netherlands were targeted with a distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attack earlier this week.
According to Dutch publication NOS, the attacks have disrupted ING’s Internet and mobile banking systems. They’ve also impacted online payments made via iDeal, the popular e-commerce payment system used in the Netherlands.
The Dutch Association of Banks reveals that the attacks haven’t affected customer accounts.
An ING spokesperson has told NU.nl that the bank has a number of security mechanisms in place, but they haven’t been able to block the cyberattacks.
It’s uncertain who is behind the attacks, but authorities have launched an investigation into the matter.
Representatives of the Dutch Association of Banks warn financial institutions that more attacks should be expected in the upcoming period.
