Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light will finally be getting an update with the much awaited online co-operative multiplayer mode on October 26, according to the game's developer, Crystal Dynamics.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light was released in August for the Xbox 360 and one month later for the PC and PlayStation 3, as a downloadable title.

The games takes some creative liberties with Lara Croft, the heroine of the long running Tomb Raider franchise, and, so far, it seems to be working pretty good, as the full pledged games haven't been so successful while this new title has been racking up the downloads on digital distribution networks.

Now, it seems that Crystal Dynamics will finally be releasing the much anticipated online co-operative multiplayer patch, allowing gamers to play together, one as Lara, one as Totec, against the game's challenges.

What's better is that the patch with the multiplayer mode will also be bundled with some free downloadable content, probably in the form of extra challenge rooms, parallel to the main story.

Sadly, there's a catch, as the update will be exclusive to the Xbox 360 for the time being.

According to the development studio, a version for the PlayStation 3 and PC will also be released "later", so owners of those platforms shouldn't get their hopes too high about playing online with friends for the time being.

For the time being, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light only supports local co-operative multiplayer, with one player taking control of Lara Croft and the other controlling an ancient warrior called Totec.

In our own review we found the title to be pretty interesting, but you could clearly see that Crystal Dynamics isn't as experienced with creating isometric levels as other titles, but the addition of the online co-op mode would certainly make it more fun, especially if you can't have your friends over.
