While home theater/home cinema systems seem to have overtaken the market, most of the manufacturers have invested quite a few resources in bringing forth their latest technologies and designs in this area, in order to get a bigger share from the pie; this is somewhat normal and expectable since more and more customers are going for the all-in-one, compact systems to meet their audio (and video) demands. Nevertheless, the good old (and almost old-fashioned) stereo hasn't been forgotten, at least not at the Onkyo headquarters: the Japanese manufacturer has just released the C-S5VL stereo SACD player and the A-5VL stereo integrated amplifier, two nifty pieces of high-class audio gear, looking good and loaded with all the new tech.

These two new products are oriented towards the enthusiast niche and are not aiming to compete with the high-end gear out there. Yet, as far as Onkyo says, it's only the price that's for the middle range – the SACD player and the stereo amplifier have been engineered to deliver great audio performance and really are worth every penny.

The C-S5VL SACD player comes loaded with Wolfson DACs and sports a thermally regulated crystal oscillator for minimal jitter and trouble-free listening with your optical discs. The proprietary VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) system promises a good audio dynamics and pulse-free output for the most demanding of listeners. This player comes with a recommended price of $599, which really makes it a nifty choice if you're planning to buy some new gear for your audio rack.

On the other hand, the stereo A-5VL integrated amplifier benefits from Onkyo's latest digital VL technology; the VLSC shakes hands with top-drawer Burr-Brown D/A converters for a solid acoustic response with all your music. This amp sports four line-level audio inputs as well as coaxial and optical inputs, making connecting the C-S5VL SACD player a perfect, natural choice. The amplifier puts 40W power at your fingertips and is compatible with Onkyo's Remote Interactive iPod dock. It will be available for around $699.
