Proving once and for all that the fast food dish is loved more than the teen pop idol

Facebook has 400 million people so it's safe to assume that pretty much everyone uses it. Yet, most people will also admit, albeit reluctantly, that their use of the social network falls more on the frivolous, trivial side. Every once in a while though, the site redeems itself and shows the true power of social media and just how much can be achieved if we just come together as humans. One way that Facebook is helping mankind is by settling age old disputes which have plagued the collective imagination too long for anyone to remember. For example, which is more popular, an onion ring or Justin Bieber? An MS Paint purple monster or US President Barack Obama?

Fret no more, Facebook has answered these questions and many more. Teen sensation Justin Bieber may warm the hearts of preteen girls everywhere (in the US) and forever scar the skin of certain preteen girls' moms, but the Canadian-born artist has nothing against the humble and underrated fast food dish, the common (again, in the US) onion ring. While Bieber's smooth vocals, and presumable lack of hair chest, may have gotten him 1,648,758 fans on Facebook, the lowly onion ring managed to get the support of 2,152,536 fans in the aptly named Can this Onion Ring get more fans than Justin Bieber Facebook Page.

And if you're wondering just who is Justin Bieber, you've got your answer to the "Am I really that old?" question you've been pondering over lately. Mysteriously, and to the delight of aspiring conspiracy theorists everywhere, the group is now gone with its URL redirecting to the Facebook homepage. Is this the work health-food radicals or a clear case of discrimination against inanimate objects on the part of Facebook? We may never know.

In any case, the onion ring's short lived success may very well be a one-of. For example, a quest to determine the popularity of a nondescript sausage roll when compared to Girls Aloud member and TV personality Cheryl Cole hasn't been faring so well. The sausage roll has amassed 832,317 fans so far, but it's only half way through to its goal of 1,5 million fans at which point it would equal Cole's success.

But the most daunting task may have fallen to the most unlikely of creatures, a purple monster, created with the ubiquitous Microsoft Paint image editor, which has been pitted against the most powerful man in the world, none other than US President Barack Obama. The virtual monster's understated charm may have gotten it 655,000 fans, but it's still a long way from Obama's 7.5 million Facebook supporters. There are but a few examples and many more of these puzzling dilemmas are being unraveled as we speak.
