The community is working on a port for this device

The Ubuntu Touch operating system officially supports the Nexus 4 devices and it will be out soon on some Meizu MX 4 hardware, but that's about it. There are some ports in the works, like the one for Nexus 5, but they are not complete.

This hasn't stopped people from wanting it on their favorite devices as well and someone made a mockup of Ubuntu Touch running on OnePlus One and it looks amazing.

It will be a while until Ubuntu Touch is modular and flexible enough to allow developers to just pick it up and use it on their phones, so the community will have to settle with unofficial ports that don't really have all the functionalities. This is not something permanent, but the platform needs to become a lot more stable before this kind of work can be done much more easily.

In fact, a lot of projects have been started on XDA, for numerous phones. People really wanted to port the new operating system on their devices, but it's a lot more difficult than you can imagine. It's not impossible and some have been better at it than others, but it's not there yet. On the other hand, getting a mockup ready is much easier and it can really show the impact it would have on a certain device.

OnePlus One with Ubuntu Touch is something to admire

A simple mockup of the OnePlus One phone running Ubuntu Touch might not seem like much, but it's more than enough to get things going and to galvanize the efforts of the developers. A Google+ user, Chloe Johnson, made a simple mockup of the Ubuntu-powered OnePlus One phone and it looks amazing, like something that would sell like cupcakes. She also explained that a lot of people want to see this happen, including on XDA, and she's not the only one to see the potential in this kind of collaboration.

OnePlus One has some pretty impressive specs. It's powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon Quad-core 2.5 GHz processor, it comes with a 5.5 inch display (401 ppi), with a resolution of 1080 x 1920, 3GB or RAM, and a 13 MP camera. The cheapest model that comes with 16 GB of storage is sold with 299$ (€241). It's easy to understand why people would want this device and why many think it would be even better with an Ubuntu Touch operating system.
