Today, OnePlus, the company behind the very first smartphone to have been designed from the ground up for the CyanogenMod software, unveiled that the device would hit shelves with buffed up hardware capabilities, to better compete with flagship phones out there.

According to a recent post on the company’s forums, the upcoming mobile phone, initially set to hit shelves with a Snapdragon 800 processor packed inside, will be launched with a Snapdragon 801 CPU.

Furthermore, the company announced plans to include the 2.5GHz version of the mobile processor in the device, which should ensure that it can deliver great performance capabilities to all of its users.

“This is not just any Snapdragon 801, but rather the 8974AC clocked at 2.5GHz to offer the best experience possible,” OnePlus CEO Pete Lau noted in the aforementioned forum post.

“We have chosen to move to Snapdragon 801 processor to take full advantage of the fastest SoC currently on the market. We wanted to bring the real-world performance enhancements gained from the many improvements the Snapdragon 801 offers over the 800.”

He also noted that the higher CPU clock featured by the processor would allow it to deliver increased overall speeds. A better gaming experience will also be available for users, courtesy of a 578MHz GPU clock.

The smartphone will also come to the market with support for the newer eMMC 5.0 standard, which will ensure faster interface speed and reduced time when it comes to operations such as copy, move, open, modify, and save files.

OnePlus One will also arrive on shelves with 3GB of RAM packed inside, which will stack up great with the aforementioned processor and GPU, that’s for sure.

“After carefully considering each option, today I can tell you that the OnePlus One will come with 3GB of RAM. This way no matter how memory hungry your games and apps may be, you will never have to worry about delay due to a lack of available RAM,” said post reads.

OnePlus One is set to become official on April 23, and it seems that the newly unveiled changes in hardware capabilities will not influence the handset’s arrival, at least this is what Pete Lau notes.

According to him, the upcoming device will arrive on shelves as the fastest handset on the market. He also claims that people will be very impressed with the phone experience that the new OnePlus One will be able to offer.

“With the amazing experience that CyanogenMod offers combined with all the great features that we’ve packed in, you can be sure that you will be able to multi-task, game, and be more productive than ever without having to settle or sacrifice,” he concludes.
