OnePlus 2 is shaping up to be quite the beast

Chinese startup OnePlus achieved quite a lot of popularity with its first handset, the One, which shipped out with CyanogenMod 11S out of the box.

The product packs in some serious specs including a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 801 processor and 3GB of internal storage, and its price starts at a convenient $300 / €271.

Well, as we heard a few months back, OnePlus is already working on a sequel to their original product, which has been dubbed by the rumor mill the OnePlus 2.

According to sources familiar with the matter who have been talking to Business Insider about the upcoming sequel, OnePlus is looking to make their next phone more premium.

Would you like a metal OnePlus 2?

As opposed to OnePlus One, which relies on a polycarbonate back, the OnePlus 2 is rumored to come with a stylish metal build.

While this is good news for those of you who are fans of beautifully designed products, it might not be that great for your bank account, as a OnePlus 2 with a metal body will certainly be priced above the $300 / €271 margin.

Back in November, another report said that we should be expecting lots of surprises when it comes to the upcoming OnePlus 2. A metal design might be one of them.

The current source doesn't say anything else related to the next-gen OnePlus, so we weren't able to verify whether older rumors related to the handset were true or not.

OnePlus 2 preliminary spec roundup

According to a previous leak, the phone is set to arrive with a 5.5-inch display with QHD resolution, an upgrade from the FHD standard we are currently seeing on the OnePlus One.

Under the hood, OnePlus 2 is going to adopt Qualcomm’s controversial platform, the Snapdragon 810, just like the LG G Flex 2, Xiaomi Mi Note Pro and HTC One M9 did before it.

The handset will also take advantage of 4GB of RAM, thus joining the ranks of the most powerful Android smartphones out there.

Battery capacity was estimated to be of around 3,300 mAh, which is a little bit better than the 3,100 mAh we find on the OnePlus One.

The OnePlus 2 will be the first to launch with the company’s own Oxygen OS onboard.
