The Battle for Wesnoth, a free, turn-based tactical strategy game with a fantasy theme, featuring both single-player, and online/hot seat multiplayer combat, has been upgraded to version 1.13.0.

It's been a while since we heard anything from The Battle for Wesnoth team. This is one of the best TBS games that you can find out there, and that includes non-free title from Steam or any other platform. The Battle for Wesnoth has been around for many years, and it's been refined almost to perfection. Still, it's a big game, and new features or adventures are being added all the time, so it's not really a surprise that we get new versions.

Even 1.13.0 might seem like a stable version, it's not. The game has just received a new development branch, so breakages are expected to happen. It will be a while until we'll get to play a stable version with all the cool new stuff, but until then the community is needed to test it properly.

The Battle for Wesnoth is like nothing else

If you haven't tried The Battle for Wesnoth until now and you call yourself a gamer, you owe it to yourself to give it a try. It has a massive single-player campaign, difficult scenarios, and great replayability, not to mention the fact that it's completely free.

"Since the release of 1.12 beta 2, the development version of Wesnoth has seen a myriad of improvements: the SP/MP unification effort brings support for eras and modifications to single-player campaigns; required add-ons may now be automatically installed when attempting to join a multiplayer game; the new Lua interpreter console allows for easy debugging and testing of Lua code in scenarios; a number of WML and Lua API additions confer more power to content creators; screenshots are now saved in the PNG image format to save disk space; and the new RNG implementation may or may not help unlucky players feel less unlucky," reads the official forum.
