14 DAY TRIAL // Manjaro 0.8.8, a Linux distribution based on well-tested snapshots of the Arch Linux repositories and 100% compatible with Arch, has been released and is available for download.
This distribution has become one of the most successful Arch-based distributions out there, and the developers are working on improving it as we speak. The number of changes that went in this release are impressive, to say the least.
“Our last stable release 0.8.7 was announced on the 2013-08-25. Then was fine tuned with 0.8.7.1, one month later on 12-Sep. This means it took us three months to reach our current stable release,” said the developers in the official announcement.
A number of Linux kernels have been made available to provide options for any kind of requirements: Linux34 3.4.70 “the default kernel series for Manjaro 0.8.7), Linux38 3.8.13.13 (stable extended support kernel maintained by Canonical), Linux310 3.10.20 (default kernel series for Manjaro 0.8.8), Linux311 3.11.9 (current stable release by Linus), and Linux312 3.12.1 (latest stable, but not recommended).
Highlights of Manjaro 0.8.8:
• A stable backend for updates or transactions with a custom pyalpm has been implemented for the package manager; • The transaction progress window has been redesigned; • A post-install script output is now visible in this expander; • An about window has been implemented for the package manager; • The menu “Octopi” and “System Upgrade” have been added in octopi-notifier; • The Yaourt packages are now listed as outdated in default package list; • It’s now possible to upgrade Yaourt packages even outside the Yaourt group; • Thus, the graphical installer, has received a number of improvements; • rsync is now used to extract squashfs images; • An About Dialog has been implemented in the Octopi Notifier; • The octopi-notifier now opens only the transaction dialog, if Octopi is not running.
