Project RedLime going to re-invent and probably ruin a great franchise

It is sometimes best for mind melting, unique and revolutionary games that were launched decades ago to remain in our memory as "those unique games". Most of the times, though, things are not quite like that: old mega hits are being brought back to life with a "2" following their name and they ruin some really great memories. The only example that crosses my mind right now is Dune 2, but there are a lot more. But you can't mess with the greedy publishers, can you?

To prove that you really can't, Electronic Arts has just dropped a can of fuel on the fire, announcing that they are working to "reinvent one of EA's most acclaimed classic franchises." In order to achieve this, they have teamed-up with Starbreeze Studios, the lads that brought us the mediocre games The Darkness and The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. And this makes it sound even less promising.

Still, as you can imagine - since they eat marketing in the morning - Electronic Arts gave absolutely no details regarding this classic franchise that is going to be "re-invented". Probably just to prevent us from bitching around the next ruined great memory. They did, however, offer the "codename" of the project, which could've been worse: Project RedLime. Uhm, no, wait, it couldn't have been worse! But maybe they're talking about a new Lemonade Tycoon game, who knows?

"EA Partners is thrilled to hand over the keys to one of EA's most acclaimed franchises to Starbreeze Studios," said David DeMartini, vice president and general manager of EA Partners. "Starbreeze's pedigree is undisputed and we could not be happier to welcome them to the EA Partners family. The team is creating an incredibly innovative take on a classic property and EA Partners is poised to deliver a blockbuster launch on the global stage."

The official words say nothing more except the regular "next-gen, multi platform" stuff: the game will be available for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC systems. Any ideas what this "classic franchise" might be?
