Codemasters has announced that it plans to release new content for Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising before one full month passes from the official release of the game. The developers are also planning to release a patch alongside it, mostly to make the game work a little smoother on most configurations.

The statement has been made by Executive Producer Sion Lenton in an interview with Eurogamer. He has said that, “Our intention is to align with the first DLC pack that's coming out as well, which is due around the end of October. Hopefully we'll do the whole thing in one,” before adding that, “One of the things we're hoping is we can address the balance of vehicles in the game, as there are people who expected to be able to use them more than they can in the final game. We're really ramping up the vehicle-specific missions in there. It's all really great tech, it all works, you can get in these things, so again, we'll be trying to exploit that as well.”

This first piece of downloadable content arriving so early means that Codemasters is interested in offering as much support for its military simulation as possible. The people behind Operation Flashpoint say that they would really like to add more story missions, but that plans are under wraps at the moment. Presumably, the amount of content that is set to arrive will depend on the success of the game, when it comers to sales numbers.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is set on an island rich in oil, which is disputed by both China and Russia. When the People's Liberation Army invades the area, the United States are called in to deal with it. The single-player campaign, which can be played in the four-player cooperative mode, takes the gamer from the initial landings to the capture of the island, allowing them to take on various combat roles.
