After announcing that Windows Vista has sold in excess of 20 million licenses in the first month of commercial availability, Microsoft has further reason to celebrate because of the latest figures for Virtual PC 2007. Just in case you were wondering where Microsoft is heading with virtualization, the answer seems to be clear: towards success. In this context, the Redmond Company has just passed the one million downloads milestone with Virtual PC 2007.

"So I just received an email that said that since we released Virtual PC 2007, we have now had just over 1,000,000 downloads! Now - since VPC 2007 was released on the 19th of February 2007, that means that this was done in a mere 38 days. Apparently there are a lot of people out there who like using VPC", revealed Ben Armstrong, Program Manager on the Virtual Machines Team at Microsoft.

Virtual PC 2007 delivers support for the following versions of Windows as a host operating system: Vista Business, Vista Enterprise, Vista Ultimate, Windows Server 2003 Standard, Windows Server 2003 Standard x64, XP Professional, XP Professional x64 and XP Tablet PC Edition.

When it comes to the operating systems that can run as guests in Virtual PC 2007, the offer is a tad more varied: Vista Business, Vista Enterprise, Vista Ultimate, XP Tablet PC, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 98 Second Edition and IBM Os/2 Warp 4 Fixpack 15, Convenience Pack 1 and Convenience Pack 2.

As of now, Microsoft does not deliver support for Windows Vista Home Basic and Windows Vista Home Premium running as either host or guest operating systems. Furthermore, the Windows Vista EULA forbids the use of Home Basic and Home Premium with emulating technologies.
