The company was only paid to create the game, no included royalties

Despite getting praise from reviewers and the public, the development team at Obsidian that worked on Fallout: New Vegas missed out on a bonus payment because of just one point on review aggregation service Metacritic.

Via Twitter Chris Avellone stated, “Fallout: New Vegas was a straight payment, no royalties, only a bonus if we got an 85+ on Metacritic, which we didn't.”

The game was launched on the PC, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 and the Metacritic average stands at 84, 84 and 82 on those three gaming platforms.

Fallout: New Vegas was released during 2010 and publisher Bethesda reported that it has created 5 million in sales and generated 300 million dollars (229.6 million Euro) in just one month.

Metacritic has long been criticized for the way it translates review grades in order to fit a 1 to 10 scale and for the process it uses when including publications in the average score for a game.
