The latest title in the Call of Duty shooter franchise will be World At War. Set to launch in mid-November, the game promises to make last year's CoD 4: Modern Warfare forgotten in the minds of gamers and offer them a thrilling story in the single player mode and a well polished multiplayer one.

Recently, the developers of this game, Treyarch, have unveiled an online beta stage of the multiplayer mode for World At War and offered free invitations to all of the users on the official website of the game. We received such an invitation and tested out the game mode on a variety of scenarios including Free For All, Team Deathmatch of Capture the Flag. Here's our one hour with Call of Duty: World at War.

14:00 - The multiplayer client is now installed and the game has already started. The variety of servers offers experiences for every kind of player; the first mode tested was Free For All.

14:20 - My first impression is that 20 players in the Free For All mode is a recipe for chaos and mayhem. Bullets were flying everywhere and most of the times you didn't even get to see your killer. This is where an interesting feature kicks in, after you are killed, you get the chance to see your death through the eyes of your killer.

14:40 - After a few rounds of team deathmatch, the balance of the game really comes into play. Players can customize several classes or choose from a variety of predetermined ones like Light or Heavy Gunner, Close Assault or Sniper. Each and every one of them has its own strengths and weaknesses and can fit almost any kind of player.

15:00 - Capture the Flag is a classic mode which really emphasizes teamwork but unfortunately, if you don't really know your comrades, most of the times it will end up in chaos.

As a conclusion, the multiplayer mode of Call of Duty: World At War is extremely entertaining and very balanced, a key aspect which maintained the previous title the most played game on the Xbox 360. As he unlocks different challenges, the character receives XP points which result in the player moving up the hierarchical ladder and gives him new weapons and traits which can be employed in future matches. If the single player aspect of the upcoming game is as good as the multiplayer one, then this title should definitely be on any shooter fan's must-buy list.
